These six suites are from op.27 published in 1730 as a collection of easy playable pieces  for the vieille, musette, oboe or baroque flute. They are well suited for the recorder and are in the original key. Despite the simplicity of the technical requirements these suites contain a delightful treasure of musical ideas and artistic expression. Each suite ends with a different dance. The order of movements are also varied in each suite and among the 35 movements there are 22 different forms!(All in all I find them charming and musically rewarding.)

Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689 - 1755) was quite popular as a composer and theorist in the 18th century in France. He composed more than 102 major pieces for nearly every instrument. Performers and audiences loved his music and it was typed and retyped many times leaving him a rather wealthy man.
